New Safety Catch Fencing Goes in At Kirkistown

Catch fencing will add greatly to spectator safety.

New catch fencing is being installed at Kirkistown, from the Maguire’s Hairpin exit to the crossing opposite the control tower on the main straight and also at the infield at the Crosslé Chicane.

It is designed to catch anything that may come off a vehicle, when travelling at speed or involved in an incident on track. Of course, this will include the tyres that are currently laid in front of the Armco barriers. While they do absorb energy from the impact of vehicles, they also tend to launch themselves in all directions after the hit. The new fencing will stop them reaching the spectators.
